Envoy Router™
Economy - 22 Kpps Throughput
SET-TOP or RACKMOUNT DESIGN
Extended Temperature Certification Available
The Envoy™, Envoy 1U™ and Envoy DSL™ are designed for low-cost, small form-factor premise installations where ethernet, sync serial, T1/E1 or ADSL 1/2/2+ connections are required. The Envoy and Envoy 1U consist of a lightweight fanless aluminum chassis, 500 MHz CPU, 256 MB RAM, two on-board 10/100 ethernet ports, two Mini PCI slots, internal USB for WAN module expansion, and flash storage for maximum reliability. The Envoy DSL has identical specifications except that it provides 512 MB memory and two fixed ADSL 1/2/2+ ports in a set-top chassis.
All three Envoy models can operate in temperatures from 0° to 55° C. The extended temperature versions can be deployed in outdoor enclosures with operating temperatures from –10° to 65° C. The Envoy and Envoy 1U also offer options for 24 VDC and –48 VDC mains power.
The Envoy is a set-top chassis that supports one DB-style and two RJ-style expansion ports, while the Envoy 1U is a rackmount chassis that supports two DB-style and three RJ-style expansion ports. Expansion options currently include network cards for 10/100 ethernet, T1/E1, and synchronous serial (RS232, RS422, X.21 and V.35). The Envoy DSL is a fixed configuration router with no expansion card options, so the TransPort router and above can be used for modular applications with a two or four port ADSL 1/2/2+ card.
Envoy routers take advantage of the ImageStream Linux™ router distribution, which provides support for NAT firewall security, IPsec and SSL virtual private networks (VPNs), quality of service (QoS), VLAN tagging, VRRP for LAN failover, dynamic routing, packet filtering, bridging, peer-to-peer traffic control, and more. ImageStream Linux also includes the Inetics driver component architecture (IDCA), which supports WAN protocols including PPP, Cisco HDLC and frame relay, as well as most multilink protocols including MLPPP, MLFR and CEF.
Both the Envoy and Envoy 1U use the same system board and CPU, and both are capable of routing two T1s or E1s at wire speed.* The Envoy DSL uses a different system board with two embedded ADSL ports, and it can forward two bonded ADSL 2+ links at wire speed. Depending on packet size and processing requirements, ethernet throughput for these routers can saturate 100 Mbps full duplex links.
The Envoy, Envoy 1U, and Envoy DSL are designed to handle common ISP and business-class network applications. The routers' advanced capabilities make them ideal for small-scale routing at branch offices and remote POPs. The Envoy series provides guaranteed wire-speed performance* and unwavering reliability in a compact size and price. The chassis can be used to replace Cisco 1700, 1800 and 1900 routers, and they are excellent choices for QoS and small-scale VPN applications that require wire-speed performance in an integrated package with CALEA intercept support.
